On January 1, 2014 I started a project called Art 365. The idea was to make a little piece of art - as in an inch by inch little - every day. I did pretty well until the Alaskan summer came upon me. Summer is so short and so busy that this just went by the way side. But I picked it up again in September and I'm still doing it in 2015. So here's a sample of what I've done.<br />

Week 23 was something about gratitude. In the end I was grateful to be a cancer survivor and be alive, which I journaled about behind the race bib. The Alaska Run for Women celebrates breast cancer survivors, and even though I didn't have breast cancer it was a totally cool event. My first (and quite possibly last) 5 mile walk. The following pix is the inside of this spread. </div>

Week 25 was use a heart. So easy when you have heart stickers from Shruti Deve in India, and beautiful heart dollies from Anne Ryan in Seattle. Smiling now, even just thinking about them!<br />

As I explore new paths in art I am still fascinated by the creative mind of <a href="http://timholtz.com/blog/" target="_blank">Tim Holtz</a>. And I do really like dies....so when I saw his <a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2014-november/" target="_blank">November tag</a> I knew I wanted to try. Small problem, didn't have the leaf die and emboss and everyone was out of it. As I was laying in bed last, not sleeping, it occurred to me I should try the new emboss and die snow flake and see what I could do with it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQaNl3mZf4_3ZZFMZYEb7DBlfShi5TxlDDBX7ZrdusbzgJVxysTwODJEVCwvqtoH6a8X-VD6QZlbgdo2-TrpBdhQ81J5hyphenhyphenGn_M88YDlFHXnt7Zry-uxQU3g_oHayIGKgr9KthXp8U8-Htj/s1600/Nov+Tag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQaNl3mZf4_3ZZFMZYEb7DBlfShi5TxlDDBX7ZrdusbzgJVxysTwODJEVCwvqtoH6a8X-VD6QZlbgdo2-TrpBdhQ81J5hyphenhyphenGn_M88YDlFHXnt7Zry-uxQU3g_oHayIGKgr9KthXp8U8-Htj/s1600/Nov+Tag.jpg" height="640" width="358" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Believe me when I say this went through quite a few iterations! I loved Tim's idea of transferring metal through a stencil, but I didn't have the right metal sheets - hence the sliver snowflakes. I did however, apply the sticky embossing powder and then put some glitter on the embossed snowflake.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhERhFItJWx_EJdMx5uguwmlXonLXREFt34kf9og86sIac_Sayo_BR3cUY7S3f0v5fj4eHkPg098j9Z079p_ut5sQHh0wuPVQvvChHD-nOK-iGZkJ3tEmaS7j_a4w4qRENHKIqyzFlkrlyd/s1600/snowflake+inside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhERhFItJWx_EJdMx5uguwmlXonLXREFt34kf9og86sIac_Sayo_BR3cUY7S3f0v5fj4eHkPg098j9Z079p_ut5sQHh0wuPVQvvChHD-nOK-iGZkJ3tEmaS7j_a4w4qRENHKIqyzFlkrlyd/s1600/snowflake+inside.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Believe me when I say it glistens! I really am in love with the paint and the glitter and and the frostiness of it all! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I followed all the steps Tim laid out but I just didn't like the cardboard with the snow flake, so I tried some pattened paper. That was too much too --- and as I some how managed to let myself run out of picket fence paint, I used alcohol ink over the paper and it I decided I like the messiness of it....kind of like snow in little piles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So indeed - this is life. And all of this is just about perfect....because it finally snowed here yesterday! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This has been a busy, busy summer - as witnessed by the lack of blog posts. But I have been keeping up on on my weekly challenges with the <a href="https://arttothe5th.squarespace.com/" target="_blank">Art to the 5th</a> Documented Life Project. At the beginning of the year my recollection was the DLP would be part calendar, part journal, and part art journal. And that's exactly I how I have been using, or abusing, my little mole skin planner. Here are my takes on a few weekly challenges. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://arttothe5th.squarespace.com/journal/2014/6/5/the-documented-life-project-726-week-31-challenge" target="_blank">Week 31</a> - Add a pocket and recollections of the week. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9C4ycnfL6SWBIbjG8zkeoNt441N7h7lgIr3BwB61DFp5fxPRYMlg_M2K6_2U30Y4TXY0JYv_px3EO3Cs4Q1THiA5uOIpou01aTVvFGKVQNvafHllT2F21ib7qqn_G3O4xwlGWOJr2gnU4/s1600/Week+31+-+Pocket.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9C4ycnfL6SWBIbjG8zkeoNt441N7h7lgIr3BwB61DFp5fxPRYMlg_M2K6_2U30Y4TXY0JYv_px3EO3Cs4Q1THiA5uOIpou01aTVvFGKVQNvafHllT2F21ib7qqn_G3O4xwlGWOJr2gnU4/s1600/Week+31+-+Pocket.JPG" height="536" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used a library pocket I'd had laying around forever and started playing around the new <a href="http://timholtz.com/blog/" target="_blank">Tim Holtz</a> dragonfly die and embossing set. I am in love with it. I used twinkling H2O's to paint and then used the left over paint to color up the scraps and that's what I used to make the flowers the dragonfly is soaring above.....I filled my pocket with goodies from the week, including some photos of art projects and activities.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://timholtz.com/blog/" target="_blank">Week 30</a>'s challenge was the "Smash Book" style. Since that is kind of what I do anyway, and I wasn't aware there was a style - this is what I went for....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipyZPa1jThLqe1w2MhM3Jbvq1_FFaLkF8sRpOSNomuthhSKdCVA-3aWXjq1S4JFoDUyyIBUNPswbDv01my5vR1LI2sjaqZJqUOr9h3d78u9ozOS4bRI3OFD3IBXtkReAMzR74OCcWfJ0JW/s1600/Week+30+-+Smash.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipyZPa1jThLqe1w2MhM3Jbvq1_FFaLkF8sRpOSNomuthhSKdCVA-3aWXjq1S4JFoDUyyIBUNPswbDv01my5vR1LI2sjaqZJqUOr9h3d78u9ozOS4bRI3OFD3IBXtkReAMzR74OCcWfJ0JW/s1600/Week+30+-+Smash.JPG" height="550" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was towards the end of the month, so I made a collage on the right hand side using design elements from my desk, clips, from magazines, and a bit of happy mail.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sometimes throughout the week I add journaling, quotes I pick up, and essentially this and thats....like below. It's all so much clearer now isn't it??</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I've been following action over at the <a href="http://lindaledbetter.com/cc3challenge" target="_blank">Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 3</a> even if I haven't had the time to participate in all of Linda Ledbetter's and the Curosity Crew's calls to action. Beautiful work - be sure to check out the site if you haven't already.<br />
<br />
We're using <a href="http://timholtz.com/a-compendium-of-curiosities-volume-iii/" target="_blank">Tim Holt'z</a> third book of techniques....cleverly entitled Compendium of Curiosities 3! These books are just great - overflowing with inspiring ideas. This time the challenge was Distress Watercolors. I just had to play along!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFXIa-ul2n9k3tXU3mVlRBL9dYkpbFY3WWHJ3PXj0piDK82LYqzf1Zr5V-7hcif7eRGrjZX_8QRnvue2-wkH_aN5K-ul6CsSHWhSNH_lh8G7ZDgRf2mjkM7td0RjmqqP6MIVofRkeWsSNw/s1600/1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFXIa-ul2n9k3tXU3mVlRBL9dYkpbFY3WWHJ3PXj0piDK82LYqzf1Zr5V-7hcif7eRGrjZX_8QRnvue2-wkH_aN5K-ul6CsSHWhSNH_lh8G7ZDgRf2mjkM7td0RjmqqP6MIVofRkeWsSNw/s1600/1.JPG" height="518" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As you can see I went with a floral theme. Each of the flowers used a minimum of three of the distress markers on each of the paper flowers. I remember the first time I tried this technique; I felt like I was actually painting! If you haven't tried it, get your hands on the book, and turn to page 39 and 40 for a full description from Tim.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF5BtpGae-tUFBd_sEiiCm00lF6sviXBcis2STbNgyke_nXO_1vAh7GqdxKeUtZMajvjri8aTGpt8zp72HGycx0ZireLdyd8mqHYoYvnRxHdiTMD8DKau9VOUdvWFRK30-XXmvnHwF4CSl/s1600/2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF5BtpGae-tUFBd_sEiiCm00lF6sviXBcis2STbNgyke_nXO_1vAh7GqdxKeUtZMajvjri8aTGpt8zp72HGycx0ZireLdyd8mqHYoYvnRxHdiTMD8DKau9VOUdvWFRK30-XXmvnHwF4CSl/s1600/2.JPG" height="568" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I layered the paper colored flowers with some metal flowers (an inspiration from <a href="http://pinkleart.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Hels Sheridian</a>, a member of the Curiosity Crew, who used metal flowers on her piece). I love the contrast in texture of metal and paper but wanted to mix it up a bit from Hels, so I colored them with alcohol inks and/or distress embossing powder.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL1zfcfk7Hu4so376K21s7jKKlfxOFr9eD7qhEDxwtn2G7Uh6PpMrtNIqxW4FJRO2PPYegSwxkvRWcSfdaEXxhvT-w84C4ACnP_iACdcWEcgy8qIPH4dzc49lCHlZ4XUydeHtOh0wlwD_i/s1600/3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL1zfcfk7Hu4so376K21s7jKKlfxOFr9eD7qhEDxwtn2G7Uh6PpMrtNIqxW4FJRO2PPYegSwxkvRWcSfdaEXxhvT-w84C4ACnP_iACdcWEcgy8qIPH4dzc49lCHlZ4XUydeHtOh0wlwD_i/s1600/3.JPG" height="506" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Other bits of using the magic of Distress with water include the ribbon colored with inks, and the second background. For that - I used the cute little mini distress inks on an embossing folder, misted with water and embossed. LOVE this process. Thank you <a href="http://www.oneluckyday.net/" target="_blank">Paula Cheney</a> for that idea.<br />
<br />
Okay - one thank you card done, only about 10 more needed!! </div>

This fortnight <a href="http://lindaledbetter.com/" target="_blank">Linda Ledbetter</a> and the <a href="http://lindaledbetter.com/meet-the-curiosity-crew" target="_blank">Curiosity Crew</a> over at the <a href="http://lindaledbetter.com/cc3challenge" target="_blank">Compendium of Curiosities #3 Challenge</a> have asked us to use Distress Glitter in a piece. At first I must admit, I thought glitter is glitter. No. Absolutely Not. Distress Glitter sparkles more, has more facets, or deeper color or something because it is just the coolest glitter EVER on the face of the planet! I started using it around Christmas time and had kind of put it away. So glad that I got my colors back out and started to play. I really do LOVE this stuff.<br />
<br />
Compendium of Curiosities is <a href="http://timholtz.com/blog/" target="_blank">Tim Holtz'</a>s third book of techniques....and this week the <a href="http://www.thefunkiejunkie.com/" target="_blank">Funky Junkie Boutique </a>is the prize sponsor. Those nice guys, Tim and Mario have also donated a bundle of goodies for prizes each week too. So join us over the CC3C and give it a try.<br />
<br />
The distress glitter techniques are on pages 55 and 56. In Dragonflies by Moonlight I used Mustard Seed in the Moon, and a mixture of Clear Rock Candy, Pumpice Stone and Tumbled Glass on the dragonfly wings.<br />

<br />
<br />
The large dragonfly from the Classics #1 set was stamped directly on a piece of palette paper I had been using the other day. I had some paint left over, so I smooshed it around with a credit card and left it to dry. I love using the "leftovers" in my art. The two little dragon flies were cut using a Memory Box die cut on the same paper.<br />

<br />
<br />
The moon is Distress Paint in Picket Fence, Weathered Wood, Brushed Pewter and Squeezed Lemonade marbled together. The bottom circle is covered in glitter. To finish things off I used a border of gold embossing powder.<br />

The past couple of months have left little time for blogging, but I just couldn't let the new <a href="http://lindaledbetter.com/2014/04/cc3c01.html" target="_blank">Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge</a> start without me. <a href="http://timholtz.com/blog/" target="_blank">Tim Holtz </a>was the man who brought me to the party - the party of creativity, art, and mixed media. No matter which directions my art goes, this portion of the journey was inspired by his creativity. <br />
<br />
The Challenge is being sponsored by <a href="http://www.inspirationemporium.com/" target="_blank">Inspiration Emporium</a> and the <a href="http://www.thefunkiejunkie.com/" target="_blank">Funkie Junkie Boutique.</a> Plus Tim and Mario have sent a bushful of cool surprises for weekly winners. Be still my heart. <br />
<br />
Linda Ledbetter is the hostess again for each of the bi-weekly challenges, based on the techniques included in Tim's new book - Compendium of Curiosities 3. The first challenge was to incorporate marbled paint, explained on page 43.<br />
<br />
This is my finished product. I have to say I love how the marbling turned out this time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRdX2bMdW3qaXuvwvYhTcpMPW6acYp9YFRL62BGsWQCXZmOjrQwPtBy8O3ePGKXsAAnhH8qKz5VZI7SJCO8CE9_voRlJ8IXQzCApCUqvvTlneSWrtAvlvvOPtjMHbB_CSpjbDtFQcS85Pu/s1600/IMG_4829.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRdX2bMdW3qaXuvwvYhTcpMPW6acYp9YFRL62BGsWQCXZmOjrQwPtBy8O3ePGKXsAAnhH8qKz5VZI7SJCO8CE9_voRlJ8IXQzCApCUqvvTlneSWrtAvlvvOPtjMHbB_CSpjbDtFQcS85Pu/s1600/IMG_4829.jpg" height="558" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We recently returned from a cruise where my sweetie and I spent a lot of time appreciating the sea and sky. When I started this little project, I thought there would be stars, the sea and the sky. But then while using Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, Dried Marigold and Tarnished Brass distress paints I got a portion of the tag that cried out to had be the moon. Who am I to disregard serendipity?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiim87IesMBFnF9wuec2hZK80OiI4XhzMQOpWol8vT3oLidz998XxgrRsSzXxgaj4qD9ggz54VBJBF2HaUYpBHaQkdV0tw6gRX_G0xSGmOz2MVGOFuFOrofS2rGCSQeYCv8BIvORmEdC9mj/s1600/IMG_4830.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiim87IesMBFnF9wuec2hZK80OiI4XhzMQOpWol8vT3oLidz998XxgrRsSzXxgaj4qD9ggz54VBJBF2HaUYpBHaQkdV0tw6gRX_G0xSGmOz2MVGOFuFOrofS2rGCSQeYCv8BIvORmEdC9mj/s1600/IMG_4830.jpg" height="640" width="564" /></a></div>
<br />
I was just as happy with the sky as well....it seemed to be made for the moon, so I scrapped the star idea. I used just Chipped Sapphire, a bit of Salt Ocean and Faded Jeans Distress Paint to create the sky. And because I've not yet gotten over my bling addiction from last Christmas I used a piece of gold paper behind the orb to give it a bit more POP.<br />
<br />
And just for Mario - who knows I like word bands, I gave a nod to all the discoveries we made on the trip.<br />
<br />
On another front, I have been keeping up with the Art 365 challenge of making an inchie every day - although I admit I did have a few make-ups from the vacation!<br />
<br />

I'd complain about being busy, but what's the point? My life is full of work, art, family and friends and I feel very lucky (most days ... that is when I'm not eggs-haunted which is family speak for exhausted!). <br />
<br />
But I do get into the Fun Room most days for the Art 365 challenge. Every day make a little bit - and they do mean little bit - of art. Mostly I work on 1" x 1"; if I'm feeling really expansive I go to a whole 2" x 2". Some days its nothing more than a quick little doodle. It always invovles whatever is on my work desk at the time. It's a great way to experiment. <br />
<br />
Here are the March results:<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPInW-b9vr-PgrqmkYh8bY60fDl0GZ36DYexF8e0qUovYL1c51rBUk7c7zx5U9pVL_vICidbI4j2hlt9i-mY89G_mxxEKyruJIkaaFyo1Z34OtCvqpQNVGPtkVyI2N7PHhdYAlDleGGTnX/s1600/March+2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPInW-b9vr-PgrqmkYh8bY60fDl0GZ36DYexF8e0qUovYL1c51rBUk7c7zx5U9pVL_vICidbI4j2hlt9i-mY89G_mxxEKyruJIkaaFyo1Z34OtCvqpQNVGPtkVyI2N7PHhdYAlDleGGTnX/s1600/March+2014.jpg" height="444" width="640" /></a><br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've also been playing right along with the <a href="https://arttothe5th.squarespace.com/journal/2014/2/18/the-documented-life-project-329-week-14-challenge" target="_blank">Documented Life Project</a> (DLP). I'm just in love with it...so many wonderful, generous, giving, talented people in that little word. Last week's prompt was write your name and embellish. Well, let's be kind and say I am just at the beginning of my embellishing career. I found it pretty relaxing though. </div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

DLP was created by five ladies in southern Florida who share their talents and tips. One week <a href="https://sandi-keene.squarespace.com/secret-lake-diaries/2014/3/4/deli-paper-flower-tutorial" target="_blank">Sandi Keene</a> demoed her deli paper flowers. I'm in love, can't make enough of them. </div>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally there is the amazing <a href="http://www.dyan-reaveley.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Dyan Reavely</a>, queen of color in my book. She suggested a springtime bonus lesson in Lifebook 2014...quick, fun, and yep, colorful!</div>

Here in Alaska it's still winter...14 degrees this morning, with fresh snow two days ago. But the days are long and it's sunny...hope you're enjoying you're version of spring no matter where you are!</div>

For 250 weeks (oh my goodness!) our friend Julia Dunnit has hosted an every changing and always constant array of desks around the world. The next couple of months have been and will be super busy with two trips, lots of classes, kids moving back to the area, but I did want to say Happy Anniversary this week to <a href="http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/2014/03/whats-on-your-workdesk-wednesday-250.html" target="_blank">WOYWW</a>.<br />

<br />
It's surprisingly tidy. On the corner of the desk is my Planner....for the <a href="https://arttothe5th.squarespace.com/journal/2014/2/18/the-documented-life-project-315-week-twelve-challenge" target="_blank">Documented Life Project</a>. Here are my last two weeks. On the left is the week with "add a bird" and the week on the right is "include something from a magazine".<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I just finished a class at my local store <a href="http://www.stampcachealaska.com/" target="_blank">The Stamp Cache</a> on stencil techniques. A GIANT shout out to <a href="http://jennie-livethedream.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Jennie Atkinson</a> for her amazing flower tutorials on her blog...I found her when Tim Holtz called her out as a February tag winner. I love the internet!!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the US we have something called the Cooperative Extension Service which is program of our University system...they have wonderful information about home and hearth. For three days last week some shop keepers in our town worked with CES to host a lot of classes throughout the town. I was asked to do do something with paper...in an hour...that wasn't messy. Hmmm. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yep I went back to the guy who brought me to the party...Tim Holtz. Turned out of the seven people who signed up for my class, six were already friends, and of course I made a new one out of Annie. We made little 3" x 3" books out of a piece of scrap book paper. </div>

I had a variety of bits and bobs and time pieces on my desk since January and the pocket watch Tim Holtz used in his January tag. And now with the new <a href="http://www.vintagejourney.com/" target="_blank">Vintage Journey</a> Anything Tim challenge I thought I might see if I could get them to play nicely...the final addition was Uncle Frank...a newly Found Relative. <div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It started with a burlap panel, a piece of cardboard and a collage of Industrial papers from Tim Holtz and some white acrylic paint I applied with a brayer. Next I used a foam stamp made from die cut gears applied in grey and desert sand pinks. Then I started playing!!</div>

The lace was cut from a thrift store find, stiffened and colored with paint and matte medium. I imagined it belonged to Uncle Frank's long lost love...a remanent he some how managed to keep through the years. The rusty mesh and a key were found in his rooms. I think Uncle Frank lived at No. 109 and was actually part of a secret society...I imagine the flying heart was their symbol. </div>

I love the internet. What did we do before we had it? I now regularly post to Ms. Julia's <a href="http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/2014/03/whats-on-your-workdesk-wednesday-248.html" target="_blank">What's on Your Work Desk Wednesday</a>, as we trip around the world sharing our desks. I found the Art 365 challenge, although I don't think the good folks at <a href="http://bluetwigstudio.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Blue Twig Studio</a> call it that - where I make a small one inch by one inch (or 2 x 2) piece of art every day. And I, and about 5,600 other people are seriously into the lovely ladies at Art 5's <a href="https://arttothe5th.squarespace.com/journal/2014/2/18/the-documented-life-project-31-week-ten" target="_blank">Documented Life Project</a>, or DLP for short. Not to mention <a href="http://www.willowing.org/life-book-2014/" target="_blank">Lifebook 2014</a>, a series of classes every week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXM7qtSzunjpuVO-mVrKOoXnDcKg_ixYr9xuh8Ei6izKlIvz-0_-IxIlbPpSiuqC3wIz0qFQjj8NQTNvNQDrhuAe4B_76iRtiskaMoZjsKCnVa21B43r5-AHEy-v5Mk8Wds424IaqmTGZb/s1600/W+Desk+3-4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXM7qtSzunjpuVO-mVrKOoXnDcKg_ixYr9xuh8Ei6izKlIvz-0_-IxIlbPpSiuqC3wIz0qFQjj8NQTNvNQDrhuAe4B_76iRtiskaMoZjsKCnVa21B43r5-AHEy-v5Mk8Wds424IaqmTGZb/s1600/W+Desk+3-4.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The usual goodies. Underneath the top of the ruler, you can see a piece of Happy Mail I received today. And boy do they make me happy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is the start of the Week 10 Lifebook project - should be intersting. Hopefully I'll be able to show you the finished product next week. Ooo. And peaking out from behind this is ANOTHER piece of Happy Mail I got today!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq4TfaPymtdICqoclucGrrGcwRpEOux_oHnrH4ID1RmLDRgHiZyJYX_FQeCSMT_OJHdkx5HkO8oFgmZo4aDcr3H5LqwAwk7e3LnWGEcLQ7IlE_4_P9FA5M05jE9yErt0mxps8OpQaklm6A/s1600/W+3-4+Washi+Tags.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq4TfaPymtdICqoclucGrrGcwRpEOux_oHnrH4ID1RmLDRgHiZyJYX_FQeCSMT_OJHdkx5HkO8oFgmZo4aDcr3H5LqwAwk7e3LnWGEcLQ7IlE_4_P9FA5M05jE9yErt0mxps8OpQaklm6A/s1600/W+3-4+Washi+Tags.JPG" height="330" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I have developed a serious addiction to washi tape of late...all that COLOR and PATTERN. Be still my heart. I'll knock these back with paint probably and see what develops. Who knows?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEy0ntvNzpSvGSRMmnewjurm2z4JcWlgWdbSFI1eupLHRD4LB_yMRvIeLapgXge6ltz9jAjiKF_eC9YJzRSfsH_F_dTYrfMdoupJ0q5rmF1Dupviswe4e1S38HWl3tp9jyV28CV1KEHhh1/s1600/W+3-4+Week+o+inchies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEy0ntvNzpSvGSRMmnewjurm2z4JcWlgWdbSFI1eupLHRD4LB_yMRvIeLapgXge6ltz9jAjiKF_eC9YJzRSfsH_F_dTYrfMdoupJ0q5rmF1Dupviswe4e1S38HWl3tp9jyV28CV1KEHhh1/s1600/W+3-4+Week+o+inchies.jpg" height="338" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is this week's set of inches. Happy colors....I often just start with what's on my desk and see where that takes me. Over the weekend I was<i> really </i>into little strips of paper I had colored or covered in yes, washi tape. Did I mention I like color a lot?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNXmupp4z7HROhcygNyH9KXOIe8eL6cu8F0InOqqp7P5BC9_2hPF2o3WUhWpBBWKwZ4DGG6vK_BCF2VZwQWsXr8U9lVAkms9py8chuDIQ2y4uZzTvof69oQn3eeQmbGZwPcHnM1hkyeQQl/s1600/W+3-4+DLP.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNXmupp4z7HROhcygNyH9KXOIe8eL6cu8F0InOqqp7P5BC9_2hPF2o3WUhWpBBWKwZ4DGG6vK_BCF2VZwQWsXr8U9lVAkms9py8chuDIQ2y4uZzTvof69oQn3eeQmbGZwPcHnM1hkyeQQl/s1600/W+3-4+DLP.jpg" height="640" width="392" /></a></div>
<br />
And finally here's last DLP prompt - recycle. The background is made of the insides of billing envelopes. The flower and leaves were the left overs from making background paper a couple of weeks ago. I used a stabilio pencil to outline it and then went around with a fine paint brush dipped in water. I like how it grounds the heavy piece.<br />
<br />
Well that's it for me this week. Thanks for stopping by! If you feel so inclined let me know which inchie is your favorite this week.</div>

Even if it Tuesday night....because I love participating in What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday, hosted each week by <a href="http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/2014/02/whats-on-your-workdesk-wednesday-247.html" target="_blank">Julia</a> at the Stamping Ground.<br />

So another week has passed and I've had some time in the Fun Room. And thanks to Julia, I'm showing you <a href="http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/2014/02/whats-on-your-workdesk-wednesday-246.html" target="_blank">What's On My Work Desk</a> since it's Wednesday somewhere in the world. One of the things I've been doing lately is Lifebook 2014. This week's lesson is what is on my desk this week. <div>

This is one of the papers I made. I needed to do it for my Documented Life Project; this week's prompt is a tip-in. I was fortunate enough to receive <span style="color: red;">HAPPY MAIL!!! </span>and I used a heart I received as my tip-in. So not only was I blessed with a beautiful gift, it was also inspiring! Thank you Anne Ryan!</div>

Hope you have a wonderful week ahead...</div>

Last week, my desk was a disaster. Funny thing. It still is. With different stuff, but still quite the mess. Wondering why I would even show you such a mess. It's cause it's Wednesday, and every week we bop around the world showing each other what we're up to through Julia's <a href="http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/2014/02/245-whats-on-your-workdesk-wednesday.html" target="_blank">What's On Your Workspace Wednesday</a>.<br />

<br />
Bad huh? Oh well. It's been a week of this and that's. I did manage to get the first page done in my Documented Life Project. Last week's prompt was be inspired by a favorite...artist, picture, project. You get the picture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidfYL4KJmMLZLCFWTbpWkBVAohGZTFfQxScw7xIDvoD8-gqkUXszUgDcc8DH3E8IPGLmXwFVSLw5jwkEOg7ZvmB4Hoj9EoikWtu8oJR7U9ANU89e329wBCsvz7RnQS9KW4s5zmuqgypezx/s1600/DLP+Inspiration.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidfYL4KJmMLZLCFWTbpWkBVAohGZTFfQxScw7xIDvoD8-gqkUXszUgDcc8DH3E8IPGLmXwFVSLw5jwkEOg7ZvmB4Hoj9EoikWtu8oJR7U9ANU89e329wBCsvz7RnQS9KW4s5zmuqgypezx/s1600/DLP+Inspiration.JPG" height="520" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My inspiration was <a href="http://ingriddijkers.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Ingrid Djikers</a>, a woman of amazing talent. I took one of my first ever classes from her at Art & Soul in 2011. I learned how to make that great edge of buttons, but it really wasn't suitable for this project. Fortunately I hd a picture of it I was able to blend into the page.<br />
<br />
This week's page is still in progress. Use a shape repeatedly. Pretty original huh? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjQiBNwmBIUwYsCjaPClhihE7ujWdxics3Nvondl63tSs5j1q615RPK8oTKnhCy7uqawx3foPCz7J0Eky_2aDqKoD__hyphenhyphen_FQTpIpebZicWP_L_BVVXwN8otvaPxW5B9q53vZEba7oE7GU4/s1600/DLP+Repeat+Shape.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjQiBNwmBIUwYsCjaPClhihE7ujWdxics3Nvondl63tSs5j1q615RPK8oTKnhCy7uqawx3foPCz7J0Eky_2aDqKoD__hyphenhyphen_FQTpIpebZicWP_L_BVVXwN8otvaPxW5B9q53vZEba7oE7GU4/s1600/DLP+Repeat+Shape.JPG" height="526" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The colored hearts were made from some "test run" swatches I did with chalk ink, gesso, and water colors. We'll see where the rest of the week takes us on this one.<br />
<br />
I'm still working on my Art 365. What started with inchies, has now progressed into twinches, and 1 x 2's - which I don't yet have a name for!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgctHez-eF1QL81hOzic93X1B4EdrOJv0jdWT1s-tS51I08Eepw-oMkaW9mR_N7X19yb2obt8N6-4mFW6-irWuQI0azXtYXSV2PFW3aOXzX_fK4kL950siF3c7kdmKXi2YxBOvCunI509fV/s1600/Art+365+Feb+early.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgctHez-eF1QL81hOzic93X1B4EdrOJv0jdWT1s-tS51I08Eepw-oMkaW9mR_N7X19yb2obt8N6-4mFW6-irWuQI0azXtYXSV2PFW3aOXzX_fK4kL950siF3c7kdmKXi2YxBOvCunI509fV/s1600/Art+365+Feb+early.JPG" height="348" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The Olympic rings were a pain in the tush! The way they interweave is actually kind of odd. I finally just accepted it was going to be far from perfect. The partial 8 next to them was an experiment. I put gloss heavy gel (goodness only knows why I bought gloss????) through a stencil and then started playing with alcohol inks. At one point I added some paint but that wasn't the answer so, it just got darker and darker. One of the real benefits of Art 365 is the chance to take those kind of chances with all sorts of supplies.<br />
<br />
Ravens are all over Alaska and they are indeed amazing birds. This took me about 4 minutes I think. Have to admit I'm really liking the embossed edges.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHa5k6RdLjNsqSDbjXTtvjK3dy-jbjEujKBprvFmGvo7qlk-7R7EoxosOUN70m4NZaUGESe7ACDtdybeHR9rIjSdaElGEVw_ap6OZnO8Y7vfZm9ho1lMezbFtFc1Hi_d7nXLUMv4CpTHFS/s1600/Art+365+Raven.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHa5k6RdLjNsqSDbjXTtvjK3dy-jbjEujKBprvFmGvo7qlk-7R7EoxosOUN70m4NZaUGESe7ACDtdybeHR9rIjSdaElGEVw_ap6OZnO8Y7vfZm9ho1lMezbFtFc1Hi_d7nXLUMv4CpTHFS/s1600/Art+365+Raven.JPG" height="316" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Many more little experiments on the desk. Maybe something interesting next week! Enjoy. </div>

Yikes!<br />
<br />
I just couldn't help it. I was so excited to play with this week's Lifebook lesson - it was sprays - lots of beautiful Dylusions, vivid color!! So I just kind of pushed everything to one side and went for it. When I was done, this is what was left.<br />

I just love her...wish I could remember where she came from. Graphic 45 maybe?<br />
<br />
Another thing I've been occupying my time with is the Documented Life Project. I was doing it in my regular art journal, but decided to jump on the band wagon with the moleskin planner. I spent most of my art time on Sunday tipping in pages.<br />

<br />
One of my favorite bloggers is <a href="http://www.marjiekemper.com/blog/" target="_blank">Marjie Kemper</a>. I know first hand what a generous, kind person she is, and she is also very talented. It was exciting to see her name as one of the presenters for the 2014 version of Creative Jump Start, <a href="http://www.nathaliesstudio.com/" target="_blank">Nathalie Kalbach's</a> brain child. This year we are using household items. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When I first saw Marjie's example, I had no idea it was tape--literally could have knocked me over with a feather. Here's my take on her project. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

I used the same technique on a tag, and put yet another tag on top of that. I sop extra ink, paint, whatever with tags of all shapes and sizes. They are often great additions to art journal pages or cards. </div>

I am really enjoying <a href="http://www.nathaliesstudio.com/" target="_blank">Nathalie Kalbach's</a> Creative Jump Start 2014. As I've mentioned before we're using household items in new ways this year. Here's a new take on bubblewrap.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinz4VIz4TON8RNqRwQ7FyzUtaiZMj2NZ2mYNrTlccZPnEhPnIMiyts3Q_ts1D9wAE7Ham655EYZwOEj5sLUX4EiY478Y4F7tXEEH5N4UxOlQ-bRhRMHNScgaOg2N3F2hJHkTWsb3SB16Lz/s1600/Bubblewrap+up+closejpg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinz4VIz4TON8RNqRwQ7FyzUtaiZMj2NZ2mYNrTlccZPnEhPnIMiyts3Q_ts1D9wAE7Ham655EYZwOEj5sLUX4EiY478Y4F7tXEEH5N4UxOlQ-bRhRMHNScgaOg2N3F2hJHkTWsb3SB16Lz/s1600/Bubblewrap+up+closejpg.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I had a blast with the technique that <a href="http://andrea-gomoll.de/" target="_blank">Andrea Gomoll</a> taught us. Parts of the finished product are very painterly, parts of it are transparent...and its all full of luscious color. MMMMM. I made several pieces, but this was my favorite.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsbsVBS49bfVEFbVYNjAoMDLLhpAEq7g6GH-TFkYJ88kJLW1_6bJNpRvpvSOnzMkpVnYzUwHKLSOzU-U80jSSFlckDqjryT6K4lBIYeYr3hgT6tZYWnoWlc1fBFrN0I2rD8NI-TiwmxqBM/s1600/Bubblewrap+spread.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsbsVBS49bfVEFbVYNjAoMDLLhpAEq7g6GH-TFkYJ88kJLW1_6bJNpRvpvSOnzMkpVnYzUwHKLSOzU-U80jSSFlckDqjryT6K4lBIYeYr3hgT6tZYWnoWlc1fBFrN0I2rD8NI-TiwmxqBM/s1600/Bubblewrap+spread.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The colors reminded me a specific Claude Monet painting he did later in life...so I kind of went for a similar layout in my art journal.<br />
<br />
One of the benefits of the bubblewrap process is you end up with very cool parchment paper as well, which provided most of the background for the spread.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkNkWXxHPDMrRsBGI5cT6Jrw17DGZRK9BJY_g2jwYcptnn0axaFw7L8idIO-uAHeiI9oCIHqlTngHMp6kJ5KAHn-eTmmP7Kx8DH3we2SblBKLfLDp9AnHmsFi1WoxHPxaK_TrRm2sN6n4s/s1600/Bubblewrap+white+space.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkNkWXxHPDMrRsBGI5cT6Jrw17DGZRK9BJY_g2jwYcptnn0axaFw7L8idIO-uAHeiI9oCIHqlTngHMp6kJ5KAHn-eTmmP7Kx8DH3we2SblBKLfLDp9AnHmsFi1WoxHPxaK_TrRm2sN6n4s/s1600/Bubblewrap+white+space.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I just glued it down and added a few splatters of ink to tie it to the white space. It made me so happy, I added a couple of little dyed tags with "Joy to the World".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsbsVBS49bfVEFbVYNjAoMDLLhpAEq7g6GH-TFkYJ88kJLW1_6bJNpRvpvSOnzMkpVnYzUwHKLSOzU-U80jSSFlckDqjryT6K4lBIYeYr3hgT6tZYWnoWlc1fBFrN0I2rD8NI-TiwmxqBM/s1600/Bubblewrap+spread.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsbsVBS49bfVEFbVYNjAoMDLLhpAEq7g6GH-TFkYJ88kJLW1_6bJNpRvpvSOnzMkpVnYzUwHKLSOzU-U80jSSFlckDqjryT6K4lBIYeYr3hgT6tZYWnoWlc1fBFrN0I2rD8NI-TiwmxqBM/s1600/Bubblewrap+spread.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Life is good today. Hope that's true for you too. Thanks for stopping by the Fun Room.<br />
<br />

Another week, another desk check-in, thanks to our friend Julia, at the <a href="http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/2014/01/whats-on-your-workdesk-wednesday-243.html" target="_blank">The Stamping Ground</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcdhTehIVScHxhbN5sek1yPuJKg4CHEIgPrerlXllrbAHfqfWV6fBVWJq6pfVyWdVqxx75Am33fA8fIXS0rh1pjabtC77b79AbQiHNCMvwYlIQRh7d2W_EaSeV5hmMEF6pdsDZevkECpJn/s1600/W+1-28-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcdhTehIVScHxhbN5sek1yPuJKg4CHEIgPrerlXllrbAHfqfWV6fBVWJq6pfVyWdVqxx75Am33fA8fIXS0rh1pjabtC77b79AbQiHNCMvwYlIQRh7d2W_EaSeV5hmMEF6pdsDZevkECpJn/s1600/W+1-28-1.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Kind of clean - with a few experiments I was trying - more about those later. I have fun this week. I am still on track with my "art everyday challenge" of inchies. I let myself do a twiniche once a week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO9WPjoGfzgTIxXVioqfgDB-NrBngGcdrvoE-6Ha7hFaUDQI_jZhSRGCm1XDQ3JUeNTY9ij2CF5fEYzH7941CEH9AdfC_3GbgbHcP8ptLyP-1mmmmu9BYGZHKFuQ2waHaDZToB__EDe41l/s1600/W+1-28-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO9WPjoGfzgTIxXVioqfgDB-NrBngGcdrvoE-6Ha7hFaUDQI_jZhSRGCm1XDQ3JUeNTY9ij2CF5fEYzH7941CEH9AdfC_3GbgbHcP8ptLyP-1mmmmu9BYGZHKFuQ2waHaDZToB__EDe41l/s1600/W+1-28-2.jpg" height="508" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The larger one is a series of circles made of scrap paper, collage images and a new technique I learned from Creative Jump Start, which involves transparencies (sheet protectors in my case) and paint. It has real possibilities.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4up4qKSq5S_vVvrfsrCZdiEqLFzdP-eNJ6CUZfl-1DIWvJWvEivcMrwpZblORwEoRRMA_TSFVAreQQsqC7CCCL1OMEC21cKk4rCiB5Ts-vyXtFpPkejlddBQKFuYwKi8rbL69xO86Vq5M/s1600/W+1-28.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4up4qKSq5S_vVvrfsrCZdiEqLFzdP-eNJ6CUZfl-1DIWvJWvEivcMrwpZblORwEoRRMA_TSFVAreQQsqC7CCCL1OMEC21cKk4rCiB5Ts-vyXtFpPkejlddBQKFuYwKi8rbL69xO86Vq5M/s1600/W+1-28.jpg" height="640" width="608" /></a></div>
<br />
The "inchie of the week" is above. It's painted with my new favorite thing - Dragonfly Wing Twinkling H20 (first off I LOVE the name of the paint) - along with a couple of other colors...and of course it begged for a dragonfly on it, so who am I to disappoint?<br />
<br />
I'm taking Lifebook again - I wasn't going to until I realized how much I had learned last year. These next couple of pictures are from a creativity exercise we did.....pretty funny.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3wvEdsEbC7HD5qQL4Lrf4NRV50uH6Qh91RM25kHAirryu0ksV-4e2GxHHL9fU9cGCdb5s5iQj3qujt_iz9cy-3ENLgclB08PC0vxMWhLtm-ygG95_IjNy9KgSWs4TZEQPbYh2_oUaA-VC/s1600/W128.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3wvEdsEbC7HD5qQL4Lrf4NRV50uH6Qh91RM25kHAirryu0ksV-4e2GxHHL9fU9cGCdb5s5iQj3qujt_iz9cy-3ENLgclB08PC0vxMWhLtm-ygG95_IjNy9KgSWs4TZEQPbYh2_oUaA-VC/s1600/W128.jpg" height="640" width="448" /></a></div>
<br />
We were to pick one of our knick-knaks and draw it with the non-dominate hand. I actually kind of like it...I would have been way too intimidated to draw it with my right hand, so it worked. I'll be doing more of this.<br />
<br />
And finally I leave you this week with my <i>Wart Hog and Friend </i>creation.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaI19PhOkWxJ8PYEvk3l2yY5taQoJwn8wt-E2F_mnBpzNQwCuf3fsvTa6TzSc1JZNhQsFOxDFdsoRvDPcQ0jILXhxwHwkmx69Li6roWg-iWYWbgpCle51IiVlwxD-ADvvztDW3I2NnfbMI/s1600/W1284.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaI19PhOkWxJ8PYEvk3l2yY5taQoJwn8wt-E2F_mnBpzNQwCuf3fsvTa6TzSc1JZNhQsFOxDFdsoRvDPcQ0jILXhxwHwkmx69Li6roWg-iWYWbgpCle51IiVlwxD-ADvvztDW3I2NnfbMI/s1600/W1284.jpg" height="420" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Three colors of washi tape, five pieces each, randomly applied on an index card. What is it? After looking for a while I thought maybe a horse. But as we can see, much more like a wart hog!<br />
<br />
Sorry I wasn't able to get to everyone last week - I'm more determined this week.<br />
<br />
Enjoy - hope you have some time to be creative this week!<br />
<br /></div>

After a busy and creative December I've been having a bit of a dry spell...finally got going again at the end of this week.<br />

When I get stuck I really do go back to the folks who brought me to the party. <a href="http://dinawakley.com/" target="_blank">Dina Wakley</a> has had a huge influence...I just love her style. As I am still developing mine, I see her work in many of my pieces. </div>

This page used a technique from <a href="http://journalgirl.com/" target="_blank">Sami Harding</a> as part of <a href="http://Creative Jump Start 2014" target="_blank">Creative Jump Start 2014</a> hosted by Nathalie Kalback. What a great way to start this year...in 2013 each of the "starters" used the same thing three ways, this year it's household items. Sami's lesson was about using transparencies which I didn't have, so I used sheet protectors to paint with fluid acrylics. Way fun. Something I'll be going back to I'm sure.<br />

I debated whether to put this page up or not. There are some things I like - the face, the circles, a lot of the background. Some things I don't. The darn circles need to be a smidgen higher!!!! If I didn't move so fast I would have seen that. At 57 I'm still learning that lesson! And frankly the poor dear looks a lot like house-frau. Alas.<br />
<br />
I will say again though, the Dylusions journals take a licking and keep on ticking (okay, another way we know my age).<br />
<br />
And lastly. I couldn't help but notice that when I'm having a bit of difficulty getting started with art, my desk is relatively clean. When I'm in engaged, it's a disaster. Happy to say I'm getting back to normal now.<br />

There were so many things I loved about <a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2014-january/" target="_blank">Tim Holtz's</a> first tag of his annual challenge...the stamp-punkiness of it, the embossing, the colors, the composition, the....well, you get the idea! You can find all the details of the original at this <a href="http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2014-january/" target="_blank">post. </a><br />
<br />
It was so cool, I knew I needed to give it a go. Mine looks quite like the original this month...I mean, how could I improve??<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP0AvFSKi8EFS_LMO_aIVIVEX8UjW5uG2FbWVwhmi03REiZFoHWTT0DPCYWLBB5gGyuK3AdH7CCWiDvdSH0mGAyc8Rbu40qHOVMcU-fUdI3jQCr8Q8Wj2NbAI0VXiFycNSZismxpBFFre5/s1600/Jan+Tag+Top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP0AvFSKi8EFS_LMO_aIVIVEX8UjW5uG2FbWVwhmi03REiZFoHWTT0DPCYWLBB5gGyuK3AdH7CCWiDvdSH0mGAyc8Rbu40qHOVMcU-fUdI3jQCr8Q8Wj2NbAI0VXiFycNSZismxpBFFre5/s1600/Jan+Tag+Top.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
For some reason my Pumice Stone stain looked really green, so I ended up with layers of stain, ink, and finally paint. Funny thing about all that. All those layers gave it a significant depth....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihH_cQPDFQhpqrPTmuSCbRy4lEFu41rZIJMFsdmD-wEkTzeGnfNeVisGEHZOEwaNY7dGrX5MYjcaic-fa-x5j6ilTnaV6RXgZVcBmy-RIRIN728LCbeO1NL6ckCzUNcO1fNDAR3cLShioi/s1600/Jan+Tag+all.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihH_cQPDFQhpqrPTmuSCbRy4lEFu41rZIJMFsdmD-wEkTzeGnfNeVisGEHZOEwaNY7dGrX5MYjcaic-fa-x5j6ilTnaV6RXgZVcBmy-RIRIN728LCbeO1NL6ckCzUNcO1fNDAR3cLShioi/s1600/Jan+Tag+all.jpg" height="640" width="324" /></a></div>
<br />
I didn't quite have everything Tim did, so I made a few substitutions. I changed out the rub-ons, the tickets at the bottom and the very specialized embellishment at the top - but I did get a chance to use snaps...I just love those snaps! I love how the clock portion looks...such a cool idea Tim!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq_-mQsrO_mgJf20hkLyO372JIORmuW1TChOgLEkXD3YeXDOjepeKIVyPHkOxjtoArgliPm5s8wH6go6Af7BnzHIyyXvEcYFftlIZsySf7yIYv-ePTKSwe-1-GvgVovayRMbhVyoqo3Q92/s1600/Jan+tag+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq_-mQsrO_mgJf20hkLyO372JIORmuW1TChOgLEkXD3YeXDOjepeKIVyPHkOxjtoArgliPm5s8wH6go6Af7BnzHIyyXvEcYFftlIZsySf7yIYv-ePTKSwe-1-GvgVovayRMbhVyoqo3Q92/s1600/Jan+tag+side.jpg" height="640" width="338" /></a></div>
<br />
One product I reach for again and again is the chit-chat stickers. I like words. I like using words in my art. I love the little messages you can make with them... and I do think it's so important to value everyday...we just never know.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkw8EKA-W1tuugEWSRArAR3V-8tDLTwm0T6f5H2urCwMSY0iw3Lffk1_fcdh9cRgRKaQGoB2L8EZal00wBV5zyLwxIyRaj4Gknxwtysx7hpQQshuPBhKEx4LfMlxGzCI4FG05ifUVk1mGm/s1600/Jan+Tag+Top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkw8EKA-W1tuugEWSRArAR3V-8tDLTwm0T6f5H2urCwMSY0iw3Lffk1_fcdh9cRgRKaQGoB2L8EZal00wBV5zyLwxIyRaj4Gknxwtysx7hpQQshuPBhKEx4LfMlxGzCI4FG05ifUVk1mGm/s1600/Jan+Tag+Top.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's hoping you have lots of laughs today and you discover something new.<br />
<br />
Thanks again Tim for a great project. </div>

Greetings of the mid week oh fellow WOYWW'ers. Each Wednesday, the indomitable Julia hosts us at her blog, <a href="http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/2014/01/whats-on-your-workdesk-wednesday-242.html" target="_blank">The Stamping Ground</a> to see what's on work desks around the globe. I wasn't in the mix last week as I had to work that night and I seem to be doing other things as of late. But .... I'm back this week. Yippee!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-ZUuGLtMXwxJ9vCxZrK3qY3Qt0VkTw374H78DaOG6s0_OYcXlKOXFhmi2JpOyFR2rBINYahTqBMctcnEB3_uAPdBOfslHiZPHISjMw9OMiyks2W04AQFsqfBQIUoieBSDVCBUr7b10HlC/s1600/IMG_4336.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-ZUuGLtMXwxJ9vCxZrK3qY3Qt0VkTw374H78DaOG6s0_OYcXlKOXFhmi2JpOyFR2rBINYahTqBMctcnEB3_uAPdBOfslHiZPHISjMw9OMiyks2W04AQFsqfBQIUoieBSDVCBUr7b10HlC/s1600/IMG_4336.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since I seem to be having some difficulty engaging in a long term art project, I decided to dance with the guy who brought me to the party, which is Tim Holtz, so I did the January tag. That seemed to do it...I starting thinking about a collage on a burlap panel...something about time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgn0mnDFMQgYy-LhzU68VZ1wFp8HRiykL4iBvW4u_CEb_Q9caKfVV6gxf-DM6kbQI_RtWMBR1rUQMb-sC6-ub0DJglQ37ECNlzA-0iC0i0BkgqanUPQjUVgAshnwJWrdwTrhwJP9D35e3r/s1600/242+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgn0mnDFMQgYy-LhzU68VZ1wFp8HRiykL4iBvW4u_CEb_Q9caKfVV6gxf-DM6kbQI_RtWMBR1rUQMb-sC6-ub0DJglQ37ECNlzA-0iC0i0BkgqanUPQjUVgAshnwJWrdwTrhwJP9D35e3r/s1600/242+2.jpg" height="640" width="568" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
On the craft mat is a little experiment. Starched cheesecloth that I cut with a gear die, and then applied matte medium to in the hopes of making them stiffer. Hmmm. Didn't work exactly as I had hoped, so since I might have to do it over anyway I decided to paint them at the same time with walnut ink. We'll see.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPT1X7ezeqO0AEU5GCZfokm6512pPMzLcHwOdc-0wPe3rZx8_J8tj5l3sJU9JoNkLO4bydO6YrQkiyc5QzCXvZU9XBXk7Jlm97fA54qOtw3sthKCei1D7LLyaJgWfERudimwCig7ZCSPlw/s1600/242+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPT1X7ezeqO0AEU5GCZfokm6512pPMzLcHwOdc-0wPe3rZx8_J8tj5l3sJU9JoNkLO4bydO6YrQkiyc5QzCXvZU9XBXk7Jlm97fA54qOtw3sthKCei1D7LLyaJgWfERudimwCig7ZCSPlw/s1600/242+3.JPG" height="498" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
On thing I have been doing is this little inchie/twinchie project. You make something everyday. The challenge from Blue Twig Studio was for 365 days....whoa. Too many for me. So I signed on for 31 days. Above you'll see the last week. If your interested in the first two weeks, <a href="http://fromthefunroom-adventuresinartscrafts.blogspot.com/2014/01/thirty-one-days-of-art.html" target="_blank">click here.</a><br />
<br />
I've enjoyed it tremendously. It helps use things up from my desk, on the nights I have time I try new stuff, if not, I don't sweat it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzrC1DFPd5Utf661thYEc6VSc35Z424qplA0CtEHI26GGM-aAIeDT-13dy0ysB1i66gK4_kpMk2eDfs15Qlwivv6UUz79hSnnvH-LUfWnQwAK8eeBuL_1sEHBPdv-UI4IG7IOJsoLJDae_/s1600/242+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzrC1DFPd5Utf661thYEc6VSc35Z424qplA0CtEHI26GGM-aAIeDT-13dy0ysB1i66gK4_kpMk2eDfs15Qlwivv6UUz79hSnnvH-LUfWnQwAK8eeBuL_1sEHBPdv-UI4IG7IOJsoLJDae_/s1600/242+4.jpg" height="316" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
These are the last two days...I like them both a lot.<br />
<br />
Hope you are doing things you like a lot and winter where you are isn't too terrible. Thanks for visiting!<br />

An inch at a time<br />
<br />
Actually the challenge at <a href="http://bluetwigstudio.wordpress.com/2014/01/01/bts-365-days-of-art/" target="_blank">Blue Twig Studio</a> via <a href="http://www.artandsoulretreat.com/" target="_blank">Art & Soul Retreats</a> was 365 days of art...an inch or two at a time. But that seemed too daunting so I committed to January. Thing is, I really like it. I've tried some new techniques and most times use something that is sitting around on my desk so I feel kind of virtuous even.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqa-MtbY4Nl800HhxoCX46qD-5n-VttcDcxX80U8y4c6kORSvCsjvCBQQScKIJ5XOx0cqAI3CQwbxe9J_zvvDjgXtY3B95h9NjzA-Ydi3MuLLAYMaTRKFVh9J8_T7CTkvSogVhjCQFyjm0/s1600/Inchie+Week+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqa-MtbY4Nl800HhxoCX46qD-5n-VttcDcxX80U8y4c6kORSvCsjvCBQQScKIJ5XOx0cqAI3CQwbxe9J_zvvDjgXtY3B95h9NjzA-Ydi3MuLLAYMaTRKFVh9J8_T7CTkvSogVhjCQFyjm0/s1600/Inchie+Week+1.JPG" height="632" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The one in the second row has clips from an instruction booklet that came in about a thousand languages (okay, maybe a slight exaggeration) which I thought looked very worldly so I made a shrink art compass to go with it. The one in the middle has embossed page enforcers, highlighted by Tombow markers I blended together. Some days are really fun like that. Others are more like row three that was a piece of my first attempt at a Gelli print with a few additions....not my fav, but I was making something!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4o1y1kRcdpxLp0oiHnNnO7lRIXhuUqIEusvufBlSNwbA49fbOVGZfPW4WwjAOYrG2DhmLhffPolN8r9GBzyzfZCB3a0QJ53NMzVM1LsmVW9be4SA4XiFZtJ-gx4YwaXQhw9U0_V00JG_D/s1600/Inchie+Week+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4o1y1kRcdpxLp0oiHnNnO7lRIXhuUqIEusvufBlSNwbA49fbOVGZfPW4WwjAOYrG2DhmLhffPolN8r9GBzyzfZCB3a0QJ53NMzVM1LsmVW9be4SA4XiFZtJ-gx4YwaXQhw9U0_V00JG_D/s1600/Inchie+Week+2.JPG" height="640" width="546" /></a></div>
<br />
My favorite inchie from week two was the first one, with the two hands. I had never tried to do shadow embossing...I think it has real possibilities. I used Ranger Rust and black embossing powders .<br />
<br />
By the time I used the twinchie it seemed HUGE!!!! It's a great challenge. Care to join us?<br />
<br />
The other thing I've been tracking in this new year is the amazing <a href="https://arttothe5th.squarespace.com/" target="_blank">The Documented Life Project</a>. So cool. Five friends are hosting it. Please do visit their website. And the facebook page is so much fun to cruise through. I do <a href="http://thekathrynwheel.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Kate Crane</a>'s calendar challenge, so I decided to forego the calendar and journal part and partake in the weekly challenge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR2xUK9OWz10byYsXm9Yh3nYzvBhnAId_CE1703cbpBTmzBt9YUWXVgaTwCO3tbarD-MOLUvE1UbXDEh7lQVPv6M7KPkWpTUgmbEEDPJ0OiqnMqAL2CNMtgnliHMVi0iw7U4P5tsu943JN/s1600/DL+Week+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR2xUK9OWz10byYsXm9Yh3nYzvBhnAId_CE1703cbpBTmzBt9YUWXVgaTwCO3tbarD-MOLUvE1UbXDEh7lQVPv6M7KPkWpTUgmbEEDPJ0OiqnMqAL2CNMtgnliHMVi0iw7U4P5tsu943JN/s1600/DL+Week+4.JPG" height="640" width="504" /></a></div>
<br />
This is week 4 - where our challenge was to write and leave one word exposed. I have been puzzled as to what happen to my mojo.....the little guys are fun, but I haven't really wanted to do much more. That's not the norm. Maybe it's coming back.<br />
<br />
Hope things are good in your neck of the woods.....</div>
sara jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10722304902778647902noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4714300221415620279.post-79580831017852925102014-01-07T21:31:00.000-09:002014-01-07T21:31:00.683-09:00First WOYWW of the New Year<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
There are a lot of things I like about January - all the Christmas things which I so look forward to are over, it's a time of new beginnings AND there is time in the Fun Room. This is the first time in three weeks I have been able to join in the trip around the world, curtsey of Julia at the <a href="http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Stamping Ground</a>. I hope all my fellow WOYWW'ers had happy holidays and are also finding time to create.<br />
<br />
Here's what my desk looks like now.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPUdKBqWWBm_arBJFi98vhNj5xCo54LvuhDmdQVjaoCycXpV7ZAH_VH5zhpEwzSnw2I-eKYA3LSfKD_uVKdTtkMv5DPI_w1ui-HlEdqxw3kfQJ57-vHe5FyMMilVYivnHQRoepxpbVNhSU/s1600/W+1-7+Desk.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPUdKBqWWBm_arBJFi98vhNj5xCo54LvuhDmdQVjaoCycXpV7ZAH_VH5zhpEwzSnw2I-eKYA3LSfKD_uVKdTtkMv5DPI_w1ui-HlEdqxw3kfQJ57-vHe5FyMMilVYivnHQRoepxpbVNhSU/s1600/W+1-7+Desk.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I finally broke down and purchased a Gelli plate as a Christmas present to myself and last night I tried it for the first time....my first attempt was a real disappointment. Apparently it's not magic, and you do have to play with it. You can see my attempts in the upper right corner. I was so bummed I used my tried and true methods, and made this sheet. It made me feel much better.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0NWwh_89r-XJQdHn30WJeP0Wf9-V2OwZIsOhFiHcOeIFWK_r4VRxoLjjsAPZ501O6wM0cdJ21ot9T_vqR4NVISWRxEvcG5Wp7tXG3dmNxoqMAI3HiTAcWSdrWVQK4zbsLXuLzuZ7con9C/s1600/W+1-7+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0NWwh_89r-XJQdHn30WJeP0Wf9-V2OwZIsOhFiHcOeIFWK_r4VRxoLjjsAPZ501O6wM0cdJ21ot9T_vqR4NVISWRxEvcG5Wp7tXG3dmNxoqMAI3HiTAcWSdrWVQK4zbsLXuLzuZ7con9C/s1600/W+1-7+4.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It used a lot of the same colors as the disastrous Gelli print, but then I added a lot more layers. The double circles are made from an empty scotch tape roll. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

This little tin is holding pieces and parts of a challenge I'm partaking in. The challenge was for 365 days - which totally freaked me out - so I signed on for 31 days of January. Every day I make art. In the form of an inchie....a square inch. So far, I have 7 of them. It's pretty fun. I might actually sign on for the rest of the year! I've made it part of our whole day - "I have to go make my inchie now" and everyone says, "okay", and once I'm in the Fun Room it's much easier to stay there!<br />
<br />
I've made a couple of recent posts showing my <a href="http://fromthefunroom-adventuresinartscrafts.blogspot.com/2013/12/2013-favorites.html" target="_blank">favorite projects</a> and my <a href="http://fromthefunroom-adventuresinartscrafts.blogspot.com/2014/01/top-ten-art-journal-spreads.html" target="_blank">favorite journal spreads</a>. If you have a moment, take a look!<br />
<br />
Hope you have a lovely week ahead and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!</div>

Goodness Gracious. Time is flying by...zip, zip. Three years ago this month (also rather alarming since it certainly doesn't seem that long ago) I stumbled upon <a href="http://thekathrynwheel.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Kate Crane's</a> calendar challenge and fell in love. Each month we make a calendar page - no theme, just the month - and use it how we want. I jot down little notes about the days.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8lx1gBbFrgBBnMNIFokSJpw0929q69FH8cTy2cjl_DnyMk7aphcisS53HdWBv1im1qSKRYZsGLvZSQ2lxZ6UcpbO2O-iMyVEOOvohHwUxVZeJmRhaAbwmzJGuVFXL7Ygatw_LQw3vSW4P/s1600/Jan+Calendar.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8lx1gBbFrgBBnMNIFokSJpw0929q69FH8cTy2cjl_DnyMk7aphcisS53HdWBv1im1qSKRYZsGLvZSQ2lxZ6UcpbO2O-iMyVEOOvohHwUxVZeJmRhaAbwmzJGuVFXL7Ygatw_LQw3vSW4P/s640/Jan+Calendar.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This page turned out a lot differently than I had imagined. And I am sorry I don't have a better photo because it does look pretty cool in person. I knew I wanted to use the moon and the stars. We're all about lots of night time this time of year, and I was a bit tired of the snow theme. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a background by fan folding wax paper and laying it on a piece of Bristol paper and pouring severly watered down acrylic paint down the page. I was hoping for water but what I got was ice (you know, in my mind) so I've been keeping it handy since October. I gave it a good spray of Perfect Pearls Mist in Pearl to add a little - okay - a lot of sparkle. That's one reason it was hard to photograph. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next I cut some large stars out of a Tim Holtz die and colored them with alcohol inks. Inside my container of alcohol inks was these bits of plaid paper I had made on glossy card stock a couple of years ago. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXp8JfL5TQjIInYBcj-pNbZ9Jh-fN6oJXfg4oNqVVDlgTAk1SY_4MMa-hvfgBuXMfgUcS0FyM2nbynxzZqqL4KHy0LnVFe63HkTs4VDFRLmJitsJfAWAggiQDCdvGZNJ1Jj5xQYz2sUUZz/s1600/Jan+Cal+Moon.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="606" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXp8JfL5TQjIInYBcj-pNbZ9Jh-fN6oJXfg4oNqVVDlgTAk1SY_4MMa-hvfgBuXMfgUcS0FyM2nbynxzZqqL4KHy0LnVFe63HkTs4VDFRLmJitsJfAWAggiQDCdvGZNJ1Jj5xQYz2sUUZz/s640/Jan+Cal+Moon.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to use the blue, white, and pink plaid which took me in a whole other direction. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdV-pX12GlHHH9KIT1L-Cr8-SwkHesC9m7skypblmEzCpkM5nPHY7IkIsOB86TMChtZFgLxc3l7Rbspl5leGyx5ZI8X-yqq8POBA7fFBGXnhMK1afL1ybP_K50oKplErDtqZ2Xb63uu9GM/s1600/Jan+Cal+close+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdV-pX12GlHHH9KIT1L-Cr8-SwkHesC9m7skypblmEzCpkM5nPHY7IkIsOB86TMChtZFgLxc3l7Rbspl5leGyx5ZI8X-yqq8POBA7fFBGXnhMK1afL1ybP_K50oKplErDtqZ2Xb63uu9GM/s640/Jan+Cal+close+up.jpg" width="406" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">I found a smaller sheet of of a pink plaid - so I made some more pink plaid and combined the two in the title. The journaling squares started as very light pink Dylusions spray but the fact of the matter is I'm not really a pink kinda girl. Out came the purple and turquoise along with the amazing white Dylusions ink and after about 7 or 8 layers I had something I liked AND something that reminds me of the arctic sky.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">I'm happy to have had a fun and restful December, and be moving onto a new year!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
