There was probably ten days when I didn't even go into the Fun Room - gasp! Every once in while life just takes precedence. But finally Sunday I got to play and spent the day doing just that in my art journals. Large, contented sigh. In reading back over some past entries I found several which said I was consumed by art, which is probably true .... if I let it. It's all about BALANCE. So my new idea is to spend some time in the Fun Room each night after work (providing I don't have to work) and then some time with my family - who ever happens to be home at the time. Always searching for that BALANCE.
Here's what my desk looked like when I left tonight.
I'm playing with another canvas card. My last one, I made for my daughter was well received and FUN to make, so I'm having another go at one for a friend going into surgery on Thursday.
Because I'm still very much a beginner, I have LOTS of layers. Mostly from covering up stuff I'm not so keen about -- thank heavens for my brayer. But this time I was determined to be lighter so you could see some of the cool papers I used. Japanese text, dictionary pages, music sheets etc. So please do notice one can actually see some notes in the bottom right hand corner! Tomorrow night I'll work on my girl.
I thought I would actually give you a close-up tour of the desk. On the left side is a bucket of Dylusions sprays in each and ever yummy color they come in. Above them are photos of one of Finnabair's latest creations. I think she looks like a spiritual Queen and I just love looking at her and all the details. Such an inspiring artist. I would love to take a class with her, but it seems so unlikely she would come to Alaska. I might have to settle for the West Coast.
But I digress. You see lots of things I use to create texture, a Christy Tomlinson stencil, some punchanela, and a texture rub that works just like a stamp. In the upper left hand corner is an empty Country Time Lemonade container from two Christmases ago when I attempted to make Russian Tea which I use to clean brushes. I've apparently just dumped the water and have it sitting, ready for the next session.
This is all pretty self explanatory. Someone asked me two weeks ago if I use those pens. Yep. Sure do. Love color. The only thing that might look weird is the rubbing block in the upper right corner. I think they are made to use with paint sticks on fabric, but they work great with ink and paint on paper too.
Again, pretty obvious stuffs. I do love my big girl squirt bottle though. I filled it up on Sunday and have been able to fill my water container twice to clean brushes, without having to get up. How's that for the height of laziness?
And that concludes my tour around my work space. Why? So I can go look at everyone else's work desks for WOYWW, over at Julia Dunnit's blog the Stamping Ground. She hosts us every week, and I missed last week so I'm happy to be back. Join us.

So much to see on your creative desk, I love snooping around, especially when there is great art as well. Love the canvas card and the colours and thanks for the link to Finnabair's site.

What a fabulous desk, I could spend hours just looking. Imagine the fun I would have playing on it! That canvas you are working on looks interesting, I love layers and as you say you can cover up a multitude of sins but create a fantastic end result. As forf Finnabair - well, dare I tell you? I first admired her work at CHA two years ago when it was on display with Ranger. Then last January with Prima. Now, weekend after this one I am doing a workshop with her. EEK!! Can't wait, am so excited. Travelling the length of England almost to do it but it will be so worth it.
ReplyDeleteKeep your eye on my blog for the posting.
Hugs, Neet 32 xx

ReplyDeleteFirst.. I loved your comment you left me. Yes making someone smile or laught is and dwas the most important thing. And Im very lucky he is the king of it. Next I see so many fun fun things and all those colored pens! like wow and are those all tim's blender things in that rack? I also like to layer things.. I think I just like to make pretty colors on the paper then I don't know what to do with it most of the time after that. Im rambling lol Thank you for stoping in to see my blog Roberta 26
ReplyDeleteYour desk looks very busy and happy. I do that also with the water sprayer and I just have to walk to the other side of the room into the kitchen to get water =)

Wonderful looking canvas on the go there... and so deliciously busy!
ReplyDeleteIf you're shopping at Crafty Notions they do have some weird and wonderful stuff - half of it I wouldn't know what to do with (moulding mats?!), but worth exploring. You might want to get some of the Acrylic Wax, which you can use with the rusty powder (though glue stick and multi-medium works perfectly well), and which you can also use in lots of other ways - I hear, not tried it yet!
If you have no luck with international shipping, let me know. I could always order and post it to you...
And yes, it's just muslin, but you can soak it first in vinegar or a vinegar/water solution, and then it takes the stuff better.
Hope that all helps!

Ooh, I love layers and there's no such thing as mistakes, if you ask me - just layers of mystery! That canvas looks great! I love Finnabair too! She is such an inspiration! How exciting that you live in Alaska! Your desk is inspiring too, it motivates me to experiment! I often think it would be lovely to meet up with all the deskers who inspire me and just create together somewhere. If only all those miles could just melt away! Julie Ann xx #35
ReplyDeleteI so love a desk with a view, and yours has one in every way, from the view out the window to the wonderfully busy view of your crafting week. Lots of wonderful goodness and I am loving your beautiful background you have created for your canvas. Happy WOYWW! Danie #17

What is this 'balance' of which you speak? So hard to find! Love that beautiful layered piece you are working on.
ReplyDeleteYour canvas is wonderful and there is no wrong in art just creativity :) hugs Nikki 22 thanks for the visit
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful canvas card. Very impressive already with all those layers. Not sure I'd have my water sprayer pointed at my computer keyboard, though (grin). Happy slightly belated WOYWW from #10.
ReplyDeleteYummy colorful desk, Sara, and a wonderful happy post! It is so true about that balance! Your canvas looks fab to me! It's a medium I've not tried yet. It's way outside my "norm," but I can't wait to try it one day so I appreciate the artful inspiration! Happy Belated WOYWW! Thank you for the visit to me! Enjoy the rest of your week! Darnell #16
